I catched the pilot episode of this new ETC import from the US called Friday Night Lights on a thursday night. I’ve heard a little bit about the show, mainly through my frequent visits to the NBC website during the Christmas vacation. It was mainly due to satisfy my "Heroes" cravings and catch up on Conan O’ Brien.
(by the way Heroes premieres on Jan. 31 on Starworld)
Apparently,
the show is an expansion of the movie with the same title. I haven’t seen the movie moreover the book it was based on.
Why did I watch it?
Well I’m currently running out of TV shows to follow religiously. And I wanted to watch something new. New–meaning, its-a-show-about-football-and-i-dont-even-like-sports new. I even convinced my sister to watch it with me, though I don’t know why.
***
The episode was okey–ok meaning, its nothing like One Tree hill which is a good thing.
It had to do a lot about the atmosphere. Atmosphere meaning, the characters and the plot were the canvas and the atmosphere was the palette. The atmosphere went through me. Sounds too much, but I think it really did–why else would I have the urge to share it with you.
dont answer that.
Let me try to capture it in words, I felt: Sober, lethargic, mellow, and optimistic while watching it. It’s bluish and black/white cinematography, the long sweeping cuts w/o dialogue and the Music…
Huwaw.
what a beautiful soundtrack.
The tunes stuck in my head.
The episode was laden with instrumental string arrangments that really just make you stop and listen.
So I feverishly googled the band who made them the next day.
After that I became a fan of
Explosions in the Sky.
it turns out that they made the entire musical score of the Friday Night Lights movie: which I madly want to listen to.

After visiting some fan sites of the TV show, I managed to find the title of track they used from the band for the Pilot.
It’s:
Remember me as a Time of Day
from the album
No use blamin the taiwan earthquake for my non blogging during the holidays right?

I had my eye-check up last Jan.1 yup, amidst firecracker laden streets and sleepin people. i woke up around noon and had a terrible urge to spend my christmas money. so i got up and went to Cubao, Gateway since SM was closed and theres not much to see in Alimall. as i passed by The Optical Shop
– i suddenly remembered that i need to get my eyes checked, ive been havin trouble reading stuff on the blackboards this past few months and 2 yrs have passed since my last visit.
(but before that i had to find a money changer. yep, i had foreign currency in ma-pocket baby!)

for those college peeps who never saw me in glasses, well to tell u a lil story, I’ve always been a bespectacled boy since grade two.
flashback
Yes.
I can still remember the day when i had my first eye exam it was this annual school thing to get all the students checked-up and when i came home i gave my parents this med slip stating that i didnt have 20/20 vision. so my parents, everloving beings that they are, immediately escorted me to an eye-clinic my first optometrist looked and sounded like cita astals hehehe.
but my spectacle wearing phases never lasted long, so i skipped in between indefinite times.
why? because, i broke them a lot. most of the time i dropped them or sat on them "accidentally". so my parents just got tired of it, they didnt buy me a new one till my head starts to hurt again. but i guess children arent expected to keep glasses for long right, i mean pls, i was just a kid. — i was wrong during my highschool days it was still the same. one broken pair after another. it was ok in the past since i can see with bearable depth defects (im near sighted) but as i got old it eventually detoriated.
and now, i have to keep them on to read stuff properly on blackboards and stuff.

anyways
so i went inside the shop and pretty much got the inkling to shoplift some cool frames that i like hehehe. I even wanted to try a couple but decided not too coz their way out of budget. well i want designer frames which can cost you at least 4000 up. its a bit off for me, kasi hindi naman kami rich, but spectacles are things you wear everyday (on your face!) so in this case i believe "a lot goes long way" and besides i really dont spend much on clothes, in fact i only get new ones when my mom or someone gives me hahahaha, its mainly food/electronics/books/audio for me, so you can say wearin spectacles is a rare chance for me to look COOL.
and as much as i love my current frames (Italian Replay, ive had it for 2 years) which is kinda unique im afraid its gettin a lil old. so when i have a chance to window shop i look at optical stores to see what goods they have. currently im partial to some very thick matte titanium, horn-rimmed, or the classic black lacquer ones hehehe. but la pako pera, so i opted to get my lenses changed instead.

my lens grade got higher
when the optometrist fitted me with the lenses, i cant believe im that blind. i mean, not dark blind, but how blurred my naked eyes are.
>>>
the lens werent cheap though. bt i dont mind.

cheers for spectacles!
